Accessing Email from a smart phone
As long as the phone's software is POP3 compliant and you have a connection to the internet your phone settings will be the exact same as any computer client. We do know of two types of services available from Verizon. Verizon has "internet" access for a monthly fee. This gives you a standard internet connection with an IP address and access to browse the web and retrieve mail. Verizon also offers a limited internet connection which does not have the same unlimited internet access to the internet.

We have had reports of Verizon blocking outbound (SMTP) using their limited service but no received reports of the inbound POP being blocked. Our technicians carry and use Verizon Cell Phones. All the phones are "Pocket PC" type running Windows OS. These phones with unlimited internet access through Verizon can read and send mail using POP or IMAP through the verizon network without any issues.

Without knowing the capabilities of the phone you will need to contact Verizon to determine if the phone you are carrying has the software and connectivity plan that will allow you to POP external mail clients. Typically, unless ordered as a extra feature, this connectivity does not come standard.
